Is telehealth a good option for my child?
Children are often more comfortable with technology than adults are and can make meaningful change with telehealth. If your child is very young, we will likely ask you to stay nearby and be a co-participant in therapy. If your child is 5 and up, they can likely participate on their own with some help from their grown-ups now and then.
Some good tips for preparing your home environment is giving the child a quiet space, away from siblings, with access toys and art supplies, and preferably access to a tablet with guided access (so they can’t go on other apps). We can help you set this up with a pre-appointment set-up call, as needed.
What are the benefits of being seen in person?
Some adults and children connect better when they meet their therapist in person. It helps to meet them as a whole person rather than a face on the screen. Once you or your child are feeling comfortable, you might opt for a telehealth session when there’s inclement weather. The best modality is the one you’re comfortable with. Children with limited attention spans might also prefer being able to move in the office space without needing to stay onscreen. Consider what might make your child most comfortable.
