Testing Services
Psychological testing is the best way to know if an individual meets criteria for a psychological disorder. Many diagnoses share symptoms or can mimic each other. For instance, some individuals who have survived traumas might be distracted by intrusive memories and mistakenly assume they have ADHD. Psychological testing measures the individual’s cognitive, executive functioning, socioemotional, and academic skills in order to determine the correct diagnoses and give recommendations for school, home, work, and treatment. Psychological testing can also support children in developing IEPs and 504 plans, and adults in developing workplace accommodations. Psychological testing is available for children 3 years and up.

What type of testing is offered?
ADHD testing can best answer whether difficulties paying attention, controlling impulses, keeping pace, and staying organized are caused by a diagnosis of ADHD. Reports include diagnosis, recommendations for treatment, systems to apply at home, and recommended accommodations for school and work. Every adult or child tested will meet with the psychologist for about one hour to discuss the findings.
ASD testing can best answer whether difficulties with social cues, social reciprocity, rigidity, hyperfixations, sensory difficulties, communication issues, and restrictive and repetitive patterns of behavior are due to ASD. Reports include diagnosis, recommendations for treatment, systems to apply at home, and recommended accommodations for school and work. Every adult or child tested will meet with the psychologist for about one hour to discuss the findings.
Academic testing can best explain why a child or young adult who is not struggling with attention or hyperactivity is having difficulties reading, writing, or using mathematics. Reports provided include diagnosis, treatment strategies, and school and work accommodations. Every adult or child tested will meet with the psychologist for about one hour to discuss the findings.
A comprehensive evaluation will review all the potential diagnoses as described above, so one gets a holistic understanding of the client.
We also offer child-based feedbacks that focus on explaining the diagnosis and next steps to your child using visuals and storytelling.
We also offer teacher consultations and IEP attendance to help translate the findings to your school team.
Testing appointments are scheduled for a period of 4-6 hours with one follow-up meeting to review the results. These are typically conducted in the morning.
Is testing covered by insurance?
Psychological testing evaluations are not covered by insurance at our practice, but we can provide you with a superbill to seek reimbursement from your insurance company. This means you would pay up front, and then submit your superbill to insurance to be reimbursed for some of the costs of services.
Generally, how much does testing cost?
What if I cannot afford the fees?
We offer several pricing models to make access to testing more equitable. If you make less than 100k per year, please reach out to our intake department at intake@sunflower-psychology.com to discuss sliding scale fees.
